Crazy, Stupid

I’d like to talk about a trend that really bothers me, I call it ‘voting stupidity.’ It’s where you go out and vote for the crazy guy because well you are stupid. Now this defect has never stopped you from making smarter choices before, especially when it concerns your well-being. For example when you went to the doctor because you found that lump under your arm, and he told you to see a specialist, you didn’t go to the doctor whose credentials came from the Haiti Society of Voodoo practices did you? You didn’t seek out the guy who believes any disease can be cured with a little spit and some prayer? No you found a real doctor who studied real medicine to treat your real disease.

Why You Shouldn’t Be Bothered By Acts of Same-Sex Love in Film, and on Television

So I’ve been enchanted by this new show on Showtime called Penny Dreadful. It’s basically a retelling of all the old horror novels all encompassed into one show. It strangely works on so many levels for me. For one I am a huge fan of the horror genre, but I also love that the actors and the dialogue are not cheaply done like most modern horror tales. It feels new, and old, and it’s just everything you could want if you like horror.

I had been downloading the episodes to watch them later, and one of my friends asked me if I had seen the most recent, episode 4. I said that I had not. He said, “Well prepare for the gay!” And for a brief moment I wondered what specifically was he referring to? Was it male sex, female sex, what could he be complaining about? So I inquired. “What exactly are you talking about?” He paused, and then stated that there was some huge gay kissing in this episode. “Kissing?” I replied. Could he be making a fuss over kissing?

Religious Delusions: What Harm Can They Do?

I was recently asked by someone what was the harm in an individual believing in God. Well let me first start by stating the obvious, believing in delusions under normal circumstances would get you locked up in an asylum, however if that delusion is God, then you are giving a wafer, some wine and told to pray very hard, and all your sins will be forgiven.

Let me first say that nobody really believes the elderly woman who prays to her God each night that her Grandson makes it home from combat is truly dangerous, and I’m not going to suggest otherwise. This is not someone you should need to fear, should the day that little old women begin strapping bombs to themselves then you might have something to worry about.

And So My Friend Says: “I don’t believe in Climate Change.”

Nothing burns me more than to hear someone I consider to be fairly intelligent, so ignorant when it comes to something so obvious. Recently while discussing something on a TeamSpeak session engaged in a game of League of Legends, I bring up Climate Change in passing, just referring to something else. He responds with, “I don’t believe in climate change.” “Huh? You don’t believe in climate change?” I reply. To which he says, “The jury’s still out, the evidence seems pretty weak.”

This starts a short but heated debate, but ultimately I don’t feel like arguing while trying to play a game, so I just shut up about it right now. But it gets to me thinking how is it that conservatives can function in a world with such contradictions fixed in their minds. The conservative is perfectly ok with telling themselves that a creator, for which zero evidence exists is working his magic all the time and has been forever, however something like climate change, something for which reams of evidence exist and is well established as incontrovertible, but yeah the jury’s still out on that…

Some changes, pushing forward

I had promised some new updates, but my illness began to make my life more difficult. I began having to decide if I could put the time in that it would take to research and write articles. So for the longest time with no real energy the blog sat. This is never going to change. I know that I am not going to get better, only worse, thus I am pushing forward anyway because the alternative means I will never get anymore written.

I cannot wait for my illness to subside enough to make it easier, it's never going to get easier. So instead of writing large articles that take a lot of my time and energy to write I will write smaller, hopefully more concise articles, or split the load of much larger ones into smaller individual work.

This will hopefully allow me to get more out to be read. Soon the Saucy Blog will have new content again.

New Updates

I'm currently making back end changes to the site. The commenting function that was using Facebook broke, so I have replaced it with Disqus, which allows users to login from a lot of different interfaces like facebook, or twitter and leave a comment. (Unfortunately any comments made through the old facebook comment system will not be recoverable.)

I have also fixed a few of the other broken functions and updated the code for others. I am considering switching to another theme to try and help with load times, but I won't do that until I am sure the result will be worth the effort, as it's time consuming and with the way I feel right now, very difficult at times.

I will try and do some more blogging as soon as I have stuff to talk about, but you can always leave me messages on twitter or facebook if there is anything you'd like me to blog about.
